The Charities

Some details on the charities we’re supporting:

GLOBALGIVING PROJECTS:

We’ve setup a Tuk Tuk Goose Global Giving page where we’re supporting three strong charitable organizations, each of which serves a distinct and much needed purpose in Nepal, India, and San Francisco (the city where the three of us met).  Global Giving provides the means to get direct funding to organizations by way of their website.

The first organization is a local San Francisco effort called Spark, that seeks to empower at-risk young women by giving them job training, counseling, and parenting help.

The second organization is an Indian charity called Non Formal Education Centres seeking to provide education to children in remote tribal areas of India.

The third organization is a Nepalese charity called EcoSystems which provides bridge infrastructure in remote, dangerous areas of Nepal to help promote economic development in those areas.

Mercy Corps in India:

Mercy Corps have been the official charity from inaugural Rickshaw Run back in 2006 through to 2010. Mercy Corps’ assistance to India dates back to January 2001 when the agency responded to a devastating earthquake in Gujarat . Today, Mercy Corps is working in India to build community collaboration and fulfil dire health and economic needs. The Himalayan foothills around Darjeeling, India are home to some of the world’s finest teas – and some of Asia’s poorest families.

This awesome charity exists to offer help, support, protection and rehabilitation to Nepali girls and women who are victims, or have been victims in the past of crimes such as domestic violence, trafficking for flesh trade, child prostitution, child labor and various forms of exploitation and torture.
